Although topical lidocaine is often prescribed to relieve pain for many injured persons, there are still risks associated with using lidocaine products. Overuse and overapplication of such products may lead to seizures, irregular heartbeat, and breathing difficulties. Injured persons are strongly advised to carefully read medication labels and consult with their healthcare providers (including pharmacists) about using topical analgesics as well as any other over-the-counter or prescription medications they take.
